In 2018 Sydney Batch flipped the seat for North Carolina House District 37 blue for the first time in 15 years, a victory all the more impressive for a black first time candidate, running in a majority white, Republican leaning district. But Sydney Batch is an impressive candidate: a lawyer with a degree in social work who founded her own firm and who successfully introduced paid family leave in North Carolina during her first term in a Republican controlled chamber.

Sydney won by just 944 votes in 2018, however, and because of changes in the electoral maps, her district is now more Republican leaning. So Sister District is supporting her to help ensure Democrats can take control of the entire North Carolina House this year.

In fact, Democrats could take control of the North Carolina House and Senate, which means the 2020 election could fundamentally change both state and US House elections in North Carolina for the next 10 years (read more below).

Sydney will be interviewed by Josh Becker, the Democrat running in November to be California state senator (which election he is likely to win 🙂

Come learn about Sydney Batch, ask her questions and get energized for the work ahead of us to ensure she wins!
